Rare Philadelphia Stoneware Jar

3,950.00

This stoneware jar features an incised bird on a stump decoration washed in cobalt underneath brushed cobalt floral decoration.  It has a rolled lip and dates from about 1835.  Attributed to the Remmey family in Philadelphia, similar incised decoration is sometimes seen on presentation pitchers and banks, but this is the only jar with this type of decoration that we are aware of.   A very fine vertical hairline on the proper right side of the jar.  About 9" tall.
